Bristol Hippodrome, 5*
I saw this Roald Dahl musical at the Bristol Hippodrome. It was apparent from the moment the curtains opened that we were in for a bit of musical magic! From beautiful backdrops, creative costumes to very clever visual effects this production had it all. Some memorable sequences included the entering the gates scene and the stunning glass elevator scene. The cast bought the well loved characters to life with colour, energy and imagination and I really liked the fact each child had their own musical number depicting their personality. Gareth Snook was the perfect Willy Wonka bringing all the best zany and slightly macabre traits to this colorful character. I had my usual seat up at the back on the far right in the upper circle- there were a couple of visual sequences I may not have been able to fully experience but on the whole the seat was fine as normal. A feast of theatrical delight with some very impressive and high tech visual effects.
