Hello Dolly!

London Palladium, 5*

Show number 2 in my Westend marathon and another corker! Imelda Staunton took on the title role of Dolly Levi in this London Palladium spectacular remake of the famous hit 1969 musical movie of course starring Barbara Streisand. What an incredible talent this 68 year old bafta winner brings to this iconic musical theatre role, honestly she really was magnificent from start to finish as were her supporting cast of ensemble and principal actors. Other notable performances for me were Harry Hepple and Tyrone Huntley as Mr Hackl and Mr Tucker. The Palladium really lends itself to the spectacle of the big musical ensemble numbers- 'Sunday Clothes' and ' Where the Parade passes by' really bought the house down both visually and aurally- my gracious what a wall of sound! I really enjoyed the cleverly choreographed use of the conveyor belt walkway and the use of the town trolley was super. I was in another £20 seat on the far right of the upper circle- it was a little restricting for the ballroom scene for the action on stage left. Another standing ovation very well earned!
